Miniature Paperweights / Jewelry Making for Beginners

Saturday and Sunday, April 16 and 17, with a meet and greet with the Dave on the evening of Friday, April 15th

This 2 day class is will provide students a better understanding of different types of glass and equipment as well as safety techniques through demonstration and lecture. These flameworking techniques will be applied during the “hands on” portion of the class where students will work with soda lime to create small sculptures for miniature paperweights and/or jewelry.

About this Instructor: I was always drawn to different forms of art from an early age whether it was drawing cartoons or creating things out of wood. I was encouraged to attend a technical school while attending high school to study commercial art. From 1986-1989, I was fortunate to be offered an apprenticeship with local artist/professor George Vail, who not only continued to refine my skills artistically, but encouraged high personal standards and professionalism. In 1989, I was introduced to master glass artist Paul Stankard and his unmatched skill of lampworking. While I continue to assist Paul, I have become an independent glass artist, creating my own vision in glass. I strive to recreate nature in glass as realistically as possible, knowing that there are new techniques and designs waiting to be discovered that keep me driven and motivate me to continue the South Jersey glass tradition into the twenty first century.

This class will focus on developing each student's personal glass language by building a vocabulary of glass techniques, and exploring its use in developing one's personal glass language.
Students should come with their own designs/prototypes, images, ideas, questions, and the last inspirational book they read. The class will cover bending, sculpting, and design. Two years of full time or four years of part-time flameworking experience is required.

7/2 Torch Night with Barry Lafler

THIS WEEK on 7/2: Join us at CSGA along with Barry Lafler for Torch Night on Thursday. In honor of the 4th of July we will be having "Torched" hot dogs & smores. If you are in the neighborhood, stop by, we would LOVE to see you! No appointment needed, just stop on in and grab a dog and get some torch time in too!

P.S. If you are headed to the Jersey Shore we are probably on your way!

CSGA is located at 412 S. Wade Blvd., Bldg #7 Millville, NJ 08332. When you are headed down Wade Blvd you will see the Carlisle main office on your right, there is a long driveway right after the office - turn there and follow it around. CSGA is the blue building between the main office and the shop. We can't wait to see you!

Class Description: Interested in learning how to make borosilicate animal sculptures? Come take my class! I will be teaching elephants, penguins, butterflies, seahorses, and if you have something you would like to try, I will help you come up with ways to create what you desire. We can work large scale or small scale. Come one, come all!

About this Eva: I began working with glass when I was 20 years old, in the year 2000, and first started with private lessons at an alternative high school by the name of The Crefeld School. My desire to learn more about the material kept growing and I needed to find a way to keep learning, and my idea included to shoot for as cheap as possible. Well, the idea of attending college came to my mind, and that’s just what I did. First, I attended Salem Community College. There, I learned how to make glass on a torch, also known as lampworking. After a few semesters at Salem, I transferred to Temple University’s Tyler School of Art, where I learned more skills in working out of a furnace. I graduated with my B.F.A. from Tyler in 2005.

Since college, I have been producing my own designs in glass and selling wherever I can and whenever I can. Working with glass is one thing I can say is a true love of mine. I have been working for about ten years now, and I don’t see myself stopping.

Open Torch
As many of you are aware we have Open Torch/Open Studio time from 4-9pm every Thursday.

To correspond with this, we have started a monthly raffle and a grand prize raffle. Each hour of Open Torch you pay for, you will get a raffle ticket to dispense into the monthly and/or the grand prize raffle bucket.

The more hours you buy, the more chances you have to win!

The monthly raffle will be drawn at 8:30pm on the last Thursday of the month. (Hurry, May's drawing is next Thursday, the 28th.)
The grand prize raffle will be drawn on December 17 at 8:30pm. This prize is a $100 Gift Certificate to Carlisle/Carlisle School of Glass Art.

After every 9 hours of Open Torch, you will get your 10th free!
